§Remix OS, Android OS That Runs on Your PC!
September 14, 2016
Remix OS…..a… well, remixed version of Android that is more suitable for a PC’s mouse and keyboard is now available for download. The OS turns Android into a windowed desktop environment with the ability to multitask, just like Windows, Mac OS, and desktop Linux computers.
The project’s webpage says it is compatible with “most computers in the world powered by x86 chipsets,” and it seems to require a 64-bit CPU. Remix OS is based on the long-running Android-x86 project. You’ll need at least an 8GB USB 3.0 flash drive with a recommended write speed of 20MB/s, along with a PC with a “USB legacy” boot option.
I tested this on my friend’s old Windows PC and dual-booted it. It ran fine, but it was really laggy and slow, maybe because of the low specs. However, it could run and install Android apps, and the complete interface was good. It was like an Android tablet without the touchscreen.
Remix OS is designed for productive work due to features unique to an Android system. These include multi-window multitasking, a powerful file manager, and the ability to use the keyboard and trackpad like any PC.
Unlike typical Android versions, Remix OS has a desktop that is much like that of Windows 7. There is a familiar taskbar and a graphical task manager that many will find familiar. Remix OS is designed to be a productive work system and will surprise those who expect just another Android OS.
Like all mobile operating systems, it includes GPS navigation via Google Maps, media playback capabilities, and streaming music, among many other features. Almost any app on Android can also run on Remix OS.
Remix OS comes in 32-bit and 64-bit variants on download page. also you can download either a torrent or a direct file from Remix site. Of the two, I recommend using a torrent, which requires a torrent downloader. My favorite downloader is QBittorrent.
Remix OS 3.0 includes the Play Store by default, although getting it working requires activation. If you do not have internet access, this step won’t work. Fortunately, Remix includes all of the driver support contained in Linux.
The process is simple: double-click on the Play activator from the Remix OS desktop. From there, you’ll enter a guided activation configuration process.
If you own an old computer, then yes. Remix OS 3.0 captures everything that’s amazing about Android and makes it installable on most hardware.
